Overview Overlapping threats to global ecosystems and the diversity of life on Earth require stronger societal responses to the human dimensions of environmental change. The Environmental Humanities major addresses this challenge through its unique focus on the cultural, historical, and ethical contexts of human-environment relationships. It bridges humanities and social sciences, allowing students to engage more fully with current environmental problems and to identify new approaches to environmental research, practice and communication adapted to our complex, climate-changing world. Bringing together cutting-edge teaching and research from across the university, graduates majoring in this subject will be ethically, socially, and environmentally engaged. You'll have a deep understanding of the theoretical and methodological foundations of humanities-based inquiry, and the tools to evaluate and respond to environmental issues.
