Overview This major equips you with both theoretical and practice-based skills. Learn about the production and publishing contexts in which writing occurs, as well as the cultural and social issues that surround and shape writing both here in Australia and internationally. Areas of study include genres of fiction, poetry, non-fiction, scriptwriting and writing for the digital environment. Applied writing units all contain a workshop component wherein you develop your own creative concepts and put them into practice through writing, revising and responding to feedback. Our lecturers include published writers Marcelle Freiman, Jane Messer and Rebecca Giggs, as well as scriptwriting staff from the Department of Media, Music, Communication and Cultural Studies. Develop a portfolio of works to showcase your writing abilities. In the capstone unit, you publish your final works in The Quarry e-journal. Many of our undergraduate students publish their creative writing or have had plays and films produced from their scripts, as well as continue on to masters and PhD study.
