The Bachelor of Science - Bachelor of Arts combines practical, numeracy and computer skills with the critical and creative thinking skills, effective communication and problem solving skills learned from studying the arts and humanities. Studies in science allow us to research problems, interpret data and propose solutions. Studies in arts will give us the skills to develop arguments, communicate with audiences and influence decision-making. When combined, the skills and knowledge from these two fields can place you in a key position to work with the complex challenges we will face in the future.
This double degree combines the practical, numeracy and computer skills of science with the critical and creative thinking skills and effective communication and problem solving skills learned from studying the arts and humanities. Your studies across both majors will be flexible enough for you to tailor elective subjects to suit your interests. Throughout the course you will be supported with advice from academic staff across two faculties to ensure that your program of study meets your needs and that your workloads are managed appropriately. The combination of skills and knowledge you get through this degree will be a distinct advantage on graduation. You will be highly suited to a wide range of career options in both fields.
What you will study
The major areas of study in Science include: Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Geology, and Physical Geography and Environmental Geosciences. Other interdisciplinary majors are Bionanotechnology, Conservation Biology, Environmental Science, Medical Biotechnology and Medicinal Chemistry.
The major areas of study in Arts include: English Literatures, History and Languages. Other disciplinary areas include Cultural Studies, Philosophy, Sociology, Politics, and Science and Technology Studies.

A number of the course learning outcomes in each of these degrees complement and consolidate outcomes in the partner degree. Applied across two discipline areas, the outcomes are achieved at a broader and more comprehensive level.

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.

Applicants need to have achieved the required score in a qualification equivalent to the completion of 13 years of schooling in Australia. In order to succeed in your chosen course, it is assumed you have completed relevant subjects in your senior high school studies or other relevant qualifications. This is particularly important for degrees which have a strong basis in Mathematics or Science.
English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic Overall Score of 6.0, reading 6.0, writing 6.0, listening 5.0, speaking 5.0; TOEFL (Internet-based) score of 79, reading 18, writing 18, listening 16, speaking 16; Cambridge English: CAE and CPE score of 169; PTE Academic overall score of 57 (Reading and Writing 57, Speaking and Listening 50).
