By choosing to major in Global Screen Media, you'll explore the cultural, commercial and social aspects of global media. From climate change and global inequalities, to international conflict and the movement of refugees, we understand global challenges mainly through media. Media and communication messages are distributed across many platforms, and messages from these platforms, especially the internet, are being broadcast across national, cultural and linguistic barriers.
The Bachelor of International Studies examines the relationships of politics, society, culture, language, and history in a range of countries. You will analyse national and global issues, focusing on the way global forces and interactions increasingly influence domestic politics. You will also be encouraged to study abroad or undertake a study tour.
What you will study
The Global Screen Media major offers pathways into the expansive world of digital screen media in a global context. This major combines a practical focus on screen production with critical thinking and analysis of the global political and social justice issues that shape contemporary media practice. You will have the opportunity to explore transnational cultures and develop skills in digital screen media. This major will prepare you for a diverse range of careers in the international creative media industries.
As part of the degree you will also study a language minor, choosing from Mandarin, French, Italian, Japanese or Spanish.

Demonstrate a sound understanding of key components of global society and key global challenges through insights and knowledge gained from multiple perspectives and disciplines.
Communicate effectively in both speech and writing in English and at an intermediate level in a language other than their own.
Apply qualitative and quantitative analytical and problem-solving skills necessary for international studies careers and global citizenship.
Critically review interconnections between local and global issues and events as well as the historical and contemporary processes that have transformed the globe.
Display in-depth knowledge in one of the offered major areas of study.

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.
