Economics is concerned with the big picture how a country, region or particular market is operating; while finance is a more microscopic look at industry risk and return on investment. The two disciplines complement each other giving you a more complete picture of the business world and open many doors to sought-after careers.
This degree
The Bachelor of Economics and Finance is for high achievers and as a graduate of the degree you will be able to identify and apply the tools of analysis to a wide range of economic issues, including the behaviour of consumers and firms, the labour market, the environment, fiscal and monetary policy, and international trade. The program involves compulsory core subjects in first year, with options to major in either/or both Economics and/or Finance.
Students will develop the skills necessary to make responsible professional judgements in their economic and financial decision-making. Your final year culminates with an exciting applied research project capstone subject. This is an experiential learning opportunity that offers a workplace-based project, or more traditional research-based project.
Course Learning Outcomes
Students graduating from the Bachelor of Economics and Finance will be able to:
Coherently explain and integrate theoretical and technical economic and finance knowledge.
Apply theoretical and technical economic and finance knowledge in order to solve problems and provide professional advice in diverse contexts.
Critically analyse and evaluate data and information to support decision-making in business and policy settings.
Apply a wide range of empirical techniques to exercise professional judgement in addressing economic and finance problems.
Communicate knowledge and information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences, orally and in writing.
Apply an adaptive and collaborative approach to working with others in a variety of business and professional environments.
Reflect on the nature and implications of assumptions and value judgments in economic and financial analysis in both historical and contemporary events that impact on current business and policy decisions.

UOW recognizes secondary qualifications from more than 40 countries and education systems, including GCE A levels, International Baccalaureate and SAT, and can assess students who have completed the equivalent of Australian high school (Year 12) for direct entry to the first year of a Bachelor degree. English language requirements: IELTS - 6.0; TOEFL - 79, Pearson PTE - 57.
