Gain a broad foundation in geography, in a degree offering a powerful mix of interdisciplinary skills to solve a range of real-world problems. Investigate the dynamic relationships between humans, their cultures and environments, and cover a range of contemporary issues including social and environmental justice, and the efficient, equitable and sustainable use of resources.
What you will study
First year
A typical first year may include:
core topics in environment and society, geographies of oppression, introduction to geographical information systems, earth and environmental sciences, and the nature of science
an options topic in mathematical fundamentals, mathematics, or academic and professional numeracy
a selection of elective topics – recommended areas include Australian studies, history, international relations, politics and tourism
Second year
A typical second year may include:
core topics in introduction to remote sensing; sustainable development; society and space; environment, economy and culture; and demography
an options topic in Australian environmental change, Asian regional development, environmental change and human health, or emerging issues in Australian environmental management
further elective topics
Third year
A typical third year may include:
core topics in caring as country, environmental impact assessment, spatial information management, and applied environmental practice
an options topic in image analysis in remote sensing, field studies in environmental disciplines, population and environment, or environmental project planning conduct and management
further elective topics
Honours year
A typical honours year may include:
additional hands-on research skills and knowledge
further scientific research or a career in a science-related field
specialised topics and an individually supervised research project in an area that interests you.
