The one-year diploma course is designed to train actors and theatre workers who can work as performers and production team members in theatre companies, and in the production of theatre events and festivals. During training students work creatively with scripted works developing performance skills in voice, acting, movement and improvisation. The course offers a balance of performance, technical, marketing, performing arts in context, and theatre event & festival production skills. Hone your skills in theatre craft This is a very ‘hands on’ practical course. Push your creative boundaries and extend your current skills in improvisation, movement, voice and acting. A highlight of the course is the script- writing component where you will learn how to stage your own plays and present them to a live audience. Recognition of Prior Learning You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts. Modes of Delivery Performances and Productions, Computer Lab, Project work, Classroom Assessment Methods A combination of face to face, project work and small and large scale events based learning and assessment will be offered to candidates. The course is designed to engage students in hands-on project work. This may be delivered on campus, in the related industry or a combination of both. Consequently, assessments will vary throughout the course. As required by the training package, employability skills will form part of the assessment of the qualification, including communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organizing, self-management, and learning and technology. It is anticipated that learning activities and assessments will involve working with students and staff from other program areas in vocational training and higher education. Career Pathways On successful completion of the Diploma of Theatre Arts you will be suitably qualified to enter job roles such as theatre makers in small companies and community theatre. You will be a multi-skilled theatre worker capable of working in areas such as performance, script writing, design and set and prop making, stage management, production management and theatre technology - lighting and sound.
