The Photography major delivers the unique opportunity for you to develop creative skills and explore professional outcomes that facilitate career paths and successful photographic practice in diverse industries. Photography at Curtin examines the interchanges between design, editorial and fine art photography which allows you to develop your own practice to a standard of excellence across multiple platforms. Through lecture series, studio workshops, tutorials and gallery visits you will be introduced to analogue and digital technologies, exposed to the theories and histories of photography and encouraged to move towards advancing new experimental approaches to the medium in an ever increasing visual world. Photography will develop your creative skills and encourage you to advance towards new experimental approaches to the medium. You will benefit from partnerships with industry, involvement with key cultural institutions and work integrated learning opportunities to prepare you to graduate ready for successful photographic practice in diverse industries. Photography is offered as part of the Bachelor of Design. Throughout the three-year program, you’ll learn through project-based activities, and be given the opportunity to work together with students from other disciplines, mirroring a real industry environment. You can enhance your studies with a secondary major or choose from a range of elective units to support your career goals. High achieving students may complete an additional honours year enabling them to undertake their own significant research project. Professional recognition Graduates may convert student memberships of national professional design bodies, such as the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers into full professional memberships following qualification and professional experience.
