Bachelor of Laws graduates qualify for admission to practise law in Queensland. JCU Law graduates are highly valued by the profession in our region, across Australia and overseas. JCU offers ongoing support for new law students with the First Year Experience program, which ensures support and mentoring for new law students, essentially familiarising them with foundation legal skills. JCU is particularly proud of its community links and the strong support received from the legal profession and judiciary of northern and far northern Queensland. These links provide an authentic learning environment for Law students. On top of this, JCU's ongoing program of classes and workshops also involves judges and senior academics along with local law firms, government agencies, local community organisations and the local bar. These relationships enable students to gain advanced legal skills and to network with the profession. Practising legal professionals teach and tutor regularly, providing direct access to contemporary standards of practice. After graduation you must complete approved practical legal training with either a traineeship at a firm or via a practical legal training course to complete the requirements to practise as a lawyer. You can then to go into private practice or gain employment with government and non-government agencies as a lawyer. A legal qualification is also the starting point for many other careers in government and business.
