Course highlights The Bachelor of Education (Health and Physical Education) will prepare you to be a health and physical education teacher in secondary schools. You will also be ready for a career in the health and fitness industry or in sports organisation, management and coaching. Diverse and engaging subjects Our course includes studies in education, exercise science, physical education (for example, sports, dance, gymnastics, athletics, aquatics and other recreational activities), personal development, social and community health and human development, as well as the physical and behavioural sciences of human movement. Be at the front of the classroom You'll gain extensive experience in the classroom through 80 days of supervised workplace learning in rural, regional and/or metropolitan secondary schools. You'll also complete 35 hours of workplace learning in community educational settings such as outdoor recreation centres, PCYCs, sport and recreation and vacation care centres. Future-proof your career Literacy and numeracy development and support are embedded into this course, ensuring you'll meet new government standards for teachers. Our lecturers have extensive in-school teaching experience – including experience in executive roles and curriculum leadership roles and international teaching experience – as well as being acclaimed researchers in their fields. Expand your career opportunities Following your second year of study, you have the option to concurrently enrol in our Bachelor of Educational Studies, enabling the addition of a second high school teaching area. Further improve your employment outcomes by studying maths, science, English, modern history or another high school subject of your choice. Flexible study options The course can be completed in four years of full-time study. Alternatively, if you need your study to be more flexible and part-time because of work or professional sporting commitments, this may be accommodated. Career opportunities As a graduate of this course you will be eligible for teacher registration in all Australian states and territories, and this qualification can lead to teaching positions internationally.
