The Bachelor of Media Arts / Bachelor of Education (Secondary) double degree combines contemporary creative media production degree with a professionally accredited education qualification. In the innovative, industry-aligned degree, you will develop strong foundations across animation, moving image, sound, interactive media and emerging media technologies as well as explore the theoretical and practical aspects of education. You will be prepared for a career as a high school teacher, as well as in the broader creative and cultural sectors including galleries, museums and community organisations. MEDIA ARTS STUDIO SPECIALISATIONS Throughout the Media Arts component of the Bachelor of Media Arts / Bachelor of Education (Secondary), you will utilise world-class facilities, workshops and equipment to produce and share your work. The degree features five disciplinary studio areas, from which you will choose at least two. Animation In the animation studio, you will develop skills and knowledge in contemporary animation processes, techniques and concepts. By exploring a range of 3D and traditional animation processes as well as conceptual animation and digital compositing, you will acquire techniques and approaches applicable in a wide variety of media arts practices. Visual Effects (Digital Media) In the visual effects studio, you will explore the contemporary potentials of animated media. From visual effects to motion capture and encoded media, you will be challenged and engage with new possibilities for digital media practice in a critically-engaged studio context. Sound In the sound studio, you will create media artworks utilising sound-based techniques and processes. Working in studio and acoustic environments, you will develop skills and knowledge to help you create sound-based media art projects for the gallery, as well as virtual and public spaces. Moving Image In the moving image studio, you will explore contemporary approaches to video art, short film, audio-visual composition and installation. You will develop understandings and skills in a variety of creative contexts for moving image practice including gallery, screen, virtual and public spaces. Interactive Media In the interactive media studio, you will create dynamic and responsive environments and objects in the context of contemporary media arts practice. By exploring an array of interactive and immersive technologies, you will develop innovative approaches to creating mediated and sensorial experiences for a variety of contexts and spaces. In addition, you will have the opportunity to broaden your skills and knowledge by selecting from a wide range of elective courses from across our art, design and media programs. EDUCATION AREAS OF STUDY In the Education component of the Bachelor of Media Arts / Bachelor of Education (Secondary), you will explore both the theoretical and practical aspects of education. An education core will consist of courses across classroom management, indigenous perspectives, educational psychology and sociology, special education and gifted and talented education. In education method courses you will learn the specialised skills and attributes required by a Visual Arts teacher. You will choose to either extend your visual arts specialisation or to add a Graphics and Multimedia specialisation. From your second year, you will also develop practical skills in classrooms spending 80 days supervised teaching in at least three different secondary school contexts.
