This program offers a range of high-level courses, so you can specialise in a new field, deepen your existing knowledge, or explore new areas of interest. The 18-month Master of Tourism, Hotel and Event Management is designed for applicants who have a bachelor's degree in the same or a similar field (like events, hospitality, tourism, or hotel management). Study core courses, which cover topics relevant to research design and data collection for decision-making, designing and managing visitor experiences, and applied research skills relevant to a marketing and distribution research project. Choose one field of study from the following options: Event Management, Hotel Management, or Travel and Tourism Management. Each field of study offers courses that will develop your general management and leadership skills. Undertake a work-integrated learning experience, or a destination study tour, where you'll apply and develop your knowledge in the field. You'll also get to complete your choice of elective courses, which can include an industry placement.

Graduates of the Master of Tourism, Hotel and Event Management have developed skills and experience relevant to both domestic and international hospitality and events settings, and have a qualification that could take them anywhere in the world. Both domestic and international tourism make substantial contributions to the Australian economy, and there is a diversity of roles available for graduates in Australia, across both the public and private sectors. Graduates typically work in roles spanning business, the arts, sports, culture, and events. Specific roles largely depend on your field of study and might be found in hotels, accommodation management, hotel operations, national and state sporting associations, state and local government sport and recreation departments, the airline industry, the cruise industry, travel agencies or tour operations. Graduates also work in small hospitality enterprises or take on roles in general hospitality management. Graduates who focused on research courses and research skills during the program also work in consultancy, research or advisory positions, or choose to enrol in a Master of Philosophy or PhD program.

Applicants must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale and four years full-time work experience post-graduation including at least two of the four years full-time work experience gained while working in a dedicated supervisory/management role as approved by the Executive Dean; OR Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from UQ or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale. International applicants must complete the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 550. English language requirements: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; or TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; or TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; or PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; or CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; or BEP: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
