The Master of Psychology is designed for applicants with an approved bachelor honours degree in psychology (class I or IIA). The application process involves a range of requirements, including an interview – check with the School for details. Develop core professional competencies, including skills in counselling, behaviour change and psychological assessment. You'll also understand the ethical issues and professional standards relevant to the practice of psychology. Specialise in one field of study: Counselling Psychology, Health Psychology, Sport and Exercise Psychology, or Clinical Neuropsychology. You'll complete a range of high-level courses and undertake a dissertation. See Fields of Study for details. Apply your knowledge with 1000 hours of supervised placements and develop your skills in a variety of real-life organisations. This includes counselling services, private practices, community clinics and hospitals.
Fields of study
Clinical Neuropsychology
The Clinical Neuropsychology field of study prepares students for research and practice in clinical neuropsychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research experience. This field of study allows specialization in neuropsychological theory and practice in the assessment and treatment of emotional and behavioral disorders associated with dysfunction of brain processes or head injury.
Counselling
This field prepares students for research and practice in counselling psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research experience. Counselling psychologists help individuals, families and groups in areas related to personal well-being, interpersonal relationships, work, recreation and health. They are trained to assist people who are experiencing both acute and chronic life crises. Counselling psychologists are employed in a number of areas where therapeutic counselling is an important focus, such as non-government counselling and crisis organisations, school counselling and health and wellness settings. Counselling psychologists may also offer therapy within private practice. Graduates are eligible for registration as psychologists in Australia and for associate membership in the College of Counselling Psychologists.
Health
This field prepares students for research and practice in health psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research experience. Health psychologists may work on health promotion campaigns with the government and NGOs, while others work with clients in hospital settings or in private practice. They assist clients who may have chronic pain, chronic disease or require palliative care. The work of health psychologists is constantly expanding as the work of promoting good health and managing illness develops. Graduates are eligible for registration as psychologists in Australia and for associate membership in the College of Health Psychologists.
Sport and Exercise
This field prepares students for research and practice in sport and exercise psychology through a combination of coursework, supervised practice, and research experience. Careers in Sport and Exercise Psychology provide diverse opportunities from helping elite athletes develop the psychological skills needed to reach peak performance, to conducting research and awareness into the benefits of exercise for the treatment of chronic illness. Graduates are eligible for registration as psychologists in Australia and for associate membership in the College of Sports Psychologists

Applicants must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale and four years full-time work experience post-graduation including at least two of the four years full-time work experience gained while working in a dedicated supervisory/management role as approved by the Executive Dean; OR Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from UQ or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale. International applicants must complete the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 550. English language requirements: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; or TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; or TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; or PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; or CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; or BEP: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.
