专业简介
The aim of the Master of Philosophy (MPhil) program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates. On completion of the period of research, the student should possess the ability to formulate a significant problem, mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological frameworks, and the capacity for articulate and critical analysis. The MPhil thesis provides evidence of significant research as the culmination of 1.5-2 years full-time equivalent study and research training.
Research Groups
Aquatic Systems
The Aquatic Systems Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group that is interested in all aspects of the hydrological cycle with a particular focus on the links between ecosystem health and hydrology.
Coastal
The Coastal Engineering research group is leading research in coastal engineering through integrated physical, analytical and numerical modeling. We are a world leader in sediment transport processes, near shore hydrodynamics and statistical modelling of beach processes. Our students undertake diverse and challenging laboratory and field projects aimed at enhancing the safety and resilience of communities along the coastline of Australia and the Pacific Islands.
Fire Safety
The Fire Safety Engineering research group at The University of Queensland is leading fire safety engineering research and education through developing sustainable innovations and design approaches. Our mission is to develop and deliver enriched educational programs, scientific knowledge and novel engineering solutions across multiple disciplines and industries.
Hydraulic
Hydraulic engineering is the Science of water in motion and its interactions with the surrounding environment. Water plays a major role in human perception of the environment because it is an indispensable element. More importantly Human Life is totally dependent upon water. The technical challenges facing hydraulic engineers are formidable and sustained research efforts are essential.
Transport Engineering and Planning
Transport Engineering and Planning is a key education and research area in the School of Civil Engineering with a number of established collaborative links with industry and other universities.
Structures
The UQ Structural Engineering team has a strong teaching, research and consulting focus. With eighteen academic, research, and technical staff, the team’s expertise spans almost all current and emerging structural engineering areas. Located within the Advanced Engineering Building, UQ Structures possesses one of the largest and most extensive structural testing facilities in the southern hemisphere. They have many well-established collaborative links with industry, government, and international institutions.
Wind
The Wind Research Laboratory (WiRL) is dedicated to furthering fundamental and applied knowledge relating to wind and its interaction with the built environment. WiRL engages in teaching, research, and commercial activities in the fields of wind science and engineering. Our mission is to better understand the risk severe wind events pose to structures and society through activities that advance our knowledge of wind as an extreme atmospheric phenomena, as well as the way structures respond when loaded by these events.
