The Master of Engineering Science is a 1.5-year program (#24 units) designed for applicants with a background in engineering. Complete a range of courses from one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, or Systems Engineering. Each field of study has a huge number of courses to choose from, which cover a diversity of relevant topics. Undertake a research project in electrical, computer systems, software or mechatronics engineering. You'll be expected to systematically plan and manage your project, and to clearly present your findings and what they contribute to your field. Fields of study Electrical Engineering Courses in this field of study cover traditional areas of electrical engineering – including power systems, electronics and signal processing – as well as more specialised areas such as biomedical technologies, computer systems, software, and telecommunications. This field of study is intended to extend graduate career opportunities in areas including telecommunications, electronics, computer hardware, control systems, or power systems. Fire Safety Engineering The MEngSc (Fire Safety Engineering) aims to deliver fire safety practitioners with a wide range of engineering and scientific backgrounds, the necessary skills and knowledge to develop a comprehensive Fire Safety Strategy for a wide range of applications in which fire safety considerations must be contemplated. The new plan will cover all requirements of a Fire Safety Engineering degree, introducing core concepts in the assessment and delivery of a fire safety strategy, together with emerging directions and innovative practices. Students will learn to locate, interpret, synthesise and apply information from a variety of sources. Graduates will demonstrate specialised knowledge in fire safety engineering across a broad range of areas including fire dynamics, fire protection systems, and egress and fire safety legislation. Software Engineering This field of study consists of an extensive menu of intermediate- and advanced-level courses, which are designed to build on your existing engineering skills. In total, there are nearly 40 courses to choose from. Specific topics include operating systems, artificial intelligence, information systems, implementing compilers and interpreters for programming languages, and many more. Graduates typically work for global companies, state and federal government departments, and in many small, specialised and emerging companies.
