The Master of Engineering Science is a one-year program designed for applicants with an approved four-year bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in engineering. Complete a range of courses from one of the following fields: Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or Undeclared (chemical, civil, materials, mechanical, and mechatronic engineering).Undertake a supervised research project relevant to your engineering field. You'll be expected to systematically plan and manage all aspects of your project, and to clearly explain your findings and what they contribute to your field. Career outcomes Graduates of the Master of Engineering Science have developed the advanced knowledge needed to cross disciplinary boundaries and undertake sophisticated and complex engineering work. Graduates not only have technical expertise, but also have a combination of business, problem-solving and interpersonal skills to understand markets and develop productive relationships with customers, suppliers, business partners and colleagues. Because the program has a strong emphasis on research and research skills, other students work in research or advisory positions, or choose to enrol in a Master of Philosophy or PhD program. Electrical Engineering Courses in this field of study cover traditional areas of electrical engineering including power systems, electronics and signal processing as well as more specialised areas such as biomedical technologies, computer systems, software, and telecommunications. Software Engineering This field of study consists of an extensive menu of intermediate- and advanced-level courses, which are designed to build on your existing engineering skills. In total, there are nearly 40 courses to choose from. Specific topics include operating systems, artificial intelligence, information systems, implementing compilers and interpreters for programming languages, and many more. Undeclared The Undeclared field of study is intended to develop advanced skills in engineering analysis and problem solving. It is suitable for anyone who is interested in solving advanced technical challenges, managing projects and overseeing teams. As a student in this field, you'll develop greater understanding of complex engineering problems and gain practical experience and knowledge of advanced engineering tools and processes. Civil Engineering The 21st century is an era of great global and local challenges: climate change and the greenhouse effect, clean energy, reliable water supplies, infrastructure for booming populations, sustainable resource development, efficient and effective communications, to name but a few. These challenges create tremendous opportunities for a new generation of engineers. This is the dawn of a new engineering age where engineers are part of the solution at all scales from molecular to global. The MEngSc (Civil Engineering) will equip Civil engineers with the necessary skills to actively contribute to finding solutions to these challenges. Students will advance their Civil engineering knowledge and skills and demonstrate their learning through practice-focused and advanced technical courses, experiential learning experiences, and research projects.
