The Graduate Diploma in Epidemiology is a one-year program designed for applicants who have an approved degree, or who have completed the Graduate Certificate in Epidemiology from UQ. Complete one field of study: either Clinical Epidemiology, which applies the principles of epidemiology to clinical practice and patient care, or the 'Standard' field, which focuses on a range of different population groups. Complete compulsory courses, which will build and extend your knowledge of epidemiology as a discipline and develop your methodological skills, along with elective courses, which cover research, public health, and more. Choose to progress to the Master of Epidemiology. Because courses in the Graduate Diploma in Epidemiology are taken from the Master of Epidemiology course list, you can transfer study credits across the programs. Career outcomes The Graduate Diploma in Epidemiology is usually undertaken for professional development reasons – career progression, updating knowledge, or broadening areas of expertise. Graduates typically work across the public, private and not-for-profit sectors, both in Australia and internationally. They may work in areas including education, medicine, health, public health, government, or clinical research. Qualifications in epidemiology are also useful for roles in science communication and policy development in government or industry. Many of our graduates use their qualifications as a way of moving ahead with their careers – whatever field they work in – or use the graduate certificate as a stepping-stone to the Master of Epidemiology program, which has a more comprehensive study plan, and offers greater professional opportunities.
