专业简介
The education and training of doctoral students is one of the most important aspects of a university's activities. The pursuit of knowledge through research higher degree programs not only leads to a well-educated society and a highly trained professional work force, but also contributes significantly to the University's research and scholarship. The aim of the PhD program is to provide research training in a manner that fosters the development of independent research skills in candidates. These skills include the capacity to formulate a significant problem, to develop mastery of appropriate conceptual and methodological skills, and to relate the research topic to a broader framework of knowledge in the relevant disciplinary area. The doctoral thesis provides evidence of a contribution to knowledge with a level of originality consistent with 3-4 years of full-time study and research training. It also demonstrates a candidate's capacity for critical analysis and that he or she is capable of pursuing scholarly and programmatic research.
Our Research Groups
Biomedical Engineering
Our research covers the fields of magnetic resonance engineering, biomedical instrumentation, image analysis and bio signal analysis, with a focus on developing new tools to improve data acquisition, image reconstruction, and image analysis from medical images.
Power and Energy Systems
Our research activities are centered on renewable generation integration, condition assessment of critical power infrastructure and power electronics control and applications. This includes power system stability, state estimation for distribution networks, power quality, control and operation of power systems and transformer condition monitoring with a specific focus on the needs of the Australian electricity supply industry.
Photonics and Microwave Engineering
The Photonics & Microwave Engineering research group's activities revolve around technologies and techniques for sensing, imaging, and communicating using electromagnetic waves.
Data Science
The Data Science group encompasses a variety of research strengths including: Data and knowledge engineering, security and surveillance, complex and intelligent systems, and e Science / e Research services.
Cyber Physical Systems
Our research is comprised of three main areas: Robotics, Software Defined Networking, Internet of Things (IoT). Robotics deals with physical objects controlled in the cyber world. Software Defined Networking is a programming mechanism for connecting physical and cyber devices together, and Internet of Things concerns the connection to the internet of devices that would normally be standalone.
Co-Innovation
Co-Innovation is an inter-disciplinary research group crossing conventional boundaries comprising social robotics, interaction design, software engineering and human-computer interaction. Our research activities focus on creating new technologies that empower people and their communities through health, education, music and language.

Applicants must have a Bachelor degree or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale and four years full-time work experience post-graduation including at least two of the four years full-time work experience gained while working in a dedicated supervisory/management role as approved by the Executive Dean; OR Graduate Diploma in Business Administration from UQ or equivalent with a GPA of at least 4.50 on a 7 point scale. International applicants must complete the Graduate Management Admissions Test (GMAT) with a minimum score of 550. English language requirements: IELTS: Overall Band Score of 6.5 and a minimum score of 6 in each sub-band of Writing, Reading, Speaking and Listening; or TOEFL (Internet-Based-iBT): Overall score 87 with a Writing score of 21 and Reading, Speaking and Listening scores of 19; or TOEFL (Paper-based): Overall score of 570 and a minimum score of 5.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE) and 54 in Listening and Reading; or PTE: Overall score of 64 with 60 in each communicative skills section; or CAE/CPE: Overall Cambridge English Scale (CES) score of 176 with a minimum score of 169 in each skill; or BEP: A minimum overall grade of 4 plus a minimum grade of C in all four macro skills.

Applicants must have
A bachelor’s degree with honours class IIA or better from approved universities, which should include a relevant research component.
A research master’s degree
A coursework master’s degree and an overall GPA (grade point average) equivalent to 5.65 on the 7-point UQ scale, which should include a relevant research component.
A postgraduate degree of at least one year full-time equivalent with an overall GPA (grade point average) equivalent to 5.0 on the 7-point UQ scale, together with demonstrated research experience equivalent to honours IIA will be considered for PhD entry on a case by case basis.
A bachelor’s degree plus at least two years of documented relevant research experience, including research publications.
