The Melbourne Business School four-year doctoral program in management offers students an opportunity to work with our award-winning academics actively shaping global management theory and practice. Taught by the Department of Management and Marketing, our academics have built a teaching and research profile of international significance. They are leading researchers who regularly consult with corporate, government and NGO sectors, and publish in the world's premier management journals.
The Doctoral Program is made up of a Master of Commerce coursework program (currently only available for local students) followed by a PhD (available to both local and international students).
Students are supported by a range of grants to assist with fieldwork and conference attendance. Our graduate students have accepted positions in leading academic and business institutions both within Australia and internationally.
Tutoring and lecturing opportunities are available to build skills and provide a further level of financial support.
We expect our students to be creative, intellectually curious, highly motivated and to contribute to the advancement of the management field.
Students who have completed a four year Australian bachelor degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline that includes one year honors with a research component equivalent to at least 25% of one year of full-time study, and a minimum weighted average of 75% in final-year subjects are admitted into the coursework program Master of Commerce (Management).
Doctoral program applicants without any proper research training must complete a 25-point Research Report subject in the first year of the program in order to proceed to year two.
The Melbourne Business School Doctoral program prepares graduates for research and teaching careers at top-ranked educational institutions and for careers where world-class research and advanced analytical skills are necessary.

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

The following are minimum entry requirements and do not guarantee entry:
The equivalent of an Australian four year honours degree in an area that is relevant to the research degree being applied for, usually with a research component that accounts for at least 25% of the work at fourth year or master's level, or
A bachelor degree in a relevant or cognate discipline and a relevant postgraduate degree or
A combination of qualifications considered by the University's Research Higher Degrees Committee to be equivalent to an Australian honours degree and
Applicants are required to provide results of the GMAT or GRE; and
Current knowledge of the discipline in which the research degree will be undertaken, demonstrated by completion of tertiary studies and/or relevant professional experience in the 10 years prior to intended entry to the program
IELTS: Overall 7.0 with 7.0 in writing (no band less than 6.0)
TOEFL (paper-based): 600 and 5.0 in Test of Written English (TWE)
TOEFL (internet-based): 94, with writing 27, speaking 18, reading 13, listening 13
TOEFL (computer-based): Minimum score of 250 and score of 5.0 in the essay rating
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 and a written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50
Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 + no skill below 169.
