The Melbourne Business School Accounting Doctoral Program uses the talents of the Asia-Pacific's leading accounting researchers. Our renowned academics publish regularly in the world's premier accounting and business information systems journals and have built a teaching and research profile of international significance.
The Doctoral Program consists of a Master of Commerce coursework program followed by a PhD.
All successful applicants will be fully-funded with a scholarship for the duration of their doctoral program.
Our PhD graduates have accepted positions at leading institutions both within Australia and internationally including the Australian National University, Monash University, Columbia University, Minnesota State University, Fordham and Singapore Management University.
The Melbourne Business School Doctoral program prepares graduates for research and teaching careers at top-ranked educational institutions and for careers where world-class research and advanced analytical skills are necessary.
Successful candidates for the five-year doctoral program are first admitted into the coursework program Master of Commerce (Accounting). The coursework component consists of 16 subjects (200 points) over two years.
Students who complete the coursework at the required level will proceed to the PhD degree where they will complete the thesis, typically in three years.

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

The following are minimum entry requirements and do not guarantee entry:
The equivalent of an Australian four year honours degree in an area that is relevant to the research degree being applied for, usually with a research component that accounts for at least 25% of the work at fourth year or master's level, or
A bachelor degree in a relevant or cognate discipline and a relevant postgraduate degree or
A combination of qualifications considered by the University's Graduate Research Training Committee (GRTC) to be equivalent to an Australian honours degree and
Applicants are required to provide results of the GMAT; and
Current knowledge of the discipline in which the research degree will be undertaken, demonstrated by completion of tertiary studies and/or relevant professional experience in the 10 years prior to intended entry to the program
IELTS: Overall 7.0 with 7.0 in writing (no band less than 6.0)
TOEFL (paper-based): 600 and 5.0 in Test of Written English (TWE)
TOEFL (internet-based): 94, with writing 27, speaking 18, reading 13, listening 13
TOEFL (computer-based): Minimum score of 250 and score of 5.0 in the essay rating
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 and a written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50
Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 + no skill below 169
