Our understanding of how the Universe works has grown rapidly in the past few decades, but if you’re keen on physics, you’re probably more excited by what we don’t yet know. Our researchers are pushing the boundaries in fields like gravitational waves, quantum information and particle physics, and working with the world’s most advanced scientific instruments, including the Large Hadron Collider, the LIGO gravitational wave detector, the Murchison Widefield Array low frequency radio telescope and the Australian Synchrotron. Course structure Successful completion of 200 credit points, made up of: Discipline subjects (87.5 points), including compulsory subjects plus electives Professional skills subject (12.5 points) Research project (100 points). In your first-year, you’ll likely complete most of your coursework subjects, while beginning work on your major research project In your second year, you’ll concentrate on your research project, while completing any remaining coursework subjects. For your research project you’ll choose a project from one of our three areas of research excellence, astrophysics, theoretical particle physics and experimental particle physics. You’ll choose your professional skills subject from a selection that includes modelling, working with data, ethics, business tools, and communication, giving you an extra skill that you can take with you through your career. Career outcomes The Master of Science (Physics) could be the start of a rewarding research career in physics or an aligned field such as meteorology, informatics or software engineering. Or you could think outside the box and take your advanced analytical and problem-solving skills into business, government or education. Our graduates go on to work as: Physicists Data scientists Astrophysicists Quantum computing scientists Engineers.

为来自中国的学生设计 Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. 国际学生入学条件 In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed: an undergraduate degree with a major in Physics, Mathematical Physics, Chemical Physics, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering, and a weighted average mark of at least H3 (65%) in the best 50 points in that major or relevant discipline studies at third year; AND completion of Quantum Mechanics at both second-year and third-year university level (in addition, Electrodynamics and Statistical Physics at third-year university-level are recommended) English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only): 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL (paper-based test): 577 +, TWE 4.5; TOEFL (internet-based test): 79 + (Writing 21; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic): 58 +, no communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 176 +, no skill below 169.
