Major shifts in laws governing the workplace and labour force in Australia mean that understanding the regulatory framework pertaining to employment and labour relations practices is more important than ever.
The Master of Employment and Labour Relations Law (MEmpLabRelLaw) is ideal for legal practitioners and non-lawyers with an interest in the legal regulation of employment and labour relations, including those working in the public sector, corporate management and human resources/personnel services as well as trade unions and employer groups.
Working with lecturers who are leaders in their fields, and fellow students from Australia and around the world, you’ll have a unique opportunity to gain advanced understanding of employment and labour relations law, its recent developments and its interaction with the governance and practice of the industry.
Course structure
Students must complete eight subjects in total.
Students who do not have a law degree from a common law jurisdiction must complete; Fundamentals of the Common Law and Principles of Employment Law, as well as at least three other subjects from the list of Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects. The remaining subjects can be taken from the Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects and the other subjects list.
Students with a law degree from a common law jurisdiction must complete at least four subjects from the list of Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects. The remaining subjects can be taken from the Employment and Labour Relations Law subjects and the other subjects list (excluding Fundamentals of the Common Law).
As a Master of Employment and Labour Relations Law student, you’ll develop an advanced understanding of the complex body of knowledge in the field of employment and labour relations law, including:
legal principles of Australian employment and labour relations law
emerging and contemporary issues in Australian employment and labour relations law
technical aspects of Australian employment and labour relations law using historical, theoretical and practical perspectives its development in an international context

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

or
An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline; and successful completion of four subjects in a cognate graduate diploma and one year of documented relevant professional experience.
