The Master of Clinical Research is the final stage in our nested award suite in Clinical Research. The Master of Clinical Research is a dedicated research project and thesis. The thesis subject allows you to focus on an area of interest with the support and supervision of some of the best researchers globally.
Graduates of the Master of Clinical Research will acquire the skills required to plan and implement a clinical research program and translate their research into clinical practice.
Participants in the nested suite of qualifications in clinical research can progress from the Graduate Certificate in Clinical Research and move to the Graduate Diploma and finally the Master of Clinical Research, with the flexibility of continuing or exiting with an award at any of these stages.
Graduates of the Master of Clinical Research will have:
A comprehensive understanding of clinical research and issues associated with good clinical practice, ethics and regulations, as well as analytical and project and team management techniques
High level analytic and problem solving skills using techniques acquired during the course and independent critical thinking in your field of relevant clinical speciality
A comprehensive foundation in the methods and rationales of clinical research
The ability to acquire and create knowledge about clinical research
The ability to apply theoretical knowledge in the independent design and implementation of a significant research project through to completion in a practical setting
The ability to write scholarly papers and present their research findings in a peer environment, such as a specialist conference or seminar
Course description
Our award courses are offered as both part-time and full-time study. Those interested in full-time study can enrol directly in the Graduate Diploma or Master awards making them available to international participants. Those who complete the Master of Clinical Research will have satisfied the 25 point research pathway to PhD admission.
The Masters builds on the fundamentals of clinical research methodology, ethical responsibilities, project management, knowledge translation and the dedicated research elective stream delivered as part of the Graduate Certificate and Graduate Diploma programs. The final stage in the Master of Clinical Research is a dedicated research project and thesis.
Flexible study options for those looking to develop a clinical research career
The Master of Clinical Research is a 150 credit point award taken over 1.5 years full time or 3 years part time.
The Master thesis year is a full 50 point research project subject. You will focus on an area of research interest with the support and supervision of some of the best researchers globally.
Please note: graduates of the Specialist Certificate in Clinical Research in either Oncology or Neuroscience can have these awards credited as an elective towards the Graduate Diploma or Master awards. Those with a Specialist Certificate are encouraged to complete the remaining core subjects to earn the full award.

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

at least one year of documented, relevant professional work experience in a medical, scientific or allied health environment.
