The Master of Applied Psychology (MAP) is designed for psychology graduates who want to develop practical skills in the applications of psychology and to employ them in the world of business; government; the non-profit sector; marketing, consumer and social research; and health. The MAP is a 1.5 year (full-time) program that includes subjects from the School of Psychological Sciences along with the Faculty of Business and Economics and the Graduate School of Education. Subjects will cover social psychology, influence and persuasion, the psychology of advertising and communications, judgement and decision-making, attitude and behaviour change, consumer psychology, positive psychology, research methods and data analysis.
The Master of Applied Psychology does not carry professional accreditation and is not a pathway to professional registration as a psychologist.
Graduates will have an advanced and integrated understanding of a complex body of knowledge in the application of psychological principles and theories to real world environments. Graduates will:

Understand how theories and research of psychology can be applied to these real-world settings
Understand the implications of psychological research and theories in the commercial and social/government sectors
Be able to critically analyse research to determine its generalisability
The degree requires the completion of 150 points and, commencing in semester one, is intended to be completed full-time in 1.5 years over three semesters with some subjects taught in an intensive format. It requires the completion of 125 points of compulsory subjects including Consumer Behaviour, which will be taught by the Department of Management and Marketing, and Applied Positive Psychology, which will be taught by the Melbourne Graduate School of Education.
Students will complete an additional 25 points by way of an Internship, which will place students in relevant workplaces, or a Group Research Project. Master of Applied Psychology students will participate in a dedicated program of lectures, seminars and tutorials and will enjoy a strong cohort experience.
Graduates will be able to use the qualification to work in an array of complex and rewarding careers across marketing, social research, policy development, consumer research and consulting.

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
