专业简介
Rapid advances in genomics in the last decade are expected to bring about benefits and challenges in health care. These advances require a workforce able to incorporate new ways of thinking about, and applying, genomics knowledge in clinical practice and policy.
The Graduate Certificate in Genomics and Health provides an introduction to the current and potential impact on health and medicine brought about by advances in genomics and related technologies.
The Graduate Certificate in Genomics and Health is a 6-month nested award within the 2-year Master of Genomics and Health course.
Can be applied to a range of future careers
Designed for a broad audience, the graduate programs in Genomics and Health will prepare you for a future within a wide range of genomics related careers.
Relevant to medical and allied health professionals who wish to upskill in the area of genomics and medicine. Or recent undergraduates in science and biomedicine who want to broaden their careers beyond the laboratory. It will also be relevant to those with a health or science background who seek careers in clinical trials, education, community-based organisations such as genetic support groups, government or those seeking an entry point into a graduate research degree.
First of its kind in Australia
The University of Melbourne has long been at the forefront of delivering genetics education. The Graduate Certificate in Genomics and Health is the first course of its kind to be offered in Australia.
If you work in a clinical, health, education, public health, research or laboratory science related field this course will provide an opportunity to upskill your genomics knowledge. It will also provide recent graduates an opportunity to gain skills for employment in genomics-related industries.
The 50 point Graduate Certificate will introduce you to the basics of human genetics and its function in clinical and research practice. The course will provide an understanding of the complexity of the human genome, and tools to access information and inform risk assessment for patient care. You will learn the principles of ethical and legal frameworks as applied in the context of genomics in healthcare practice.
Lifelong learning
This introductory Graduate Certificate lays the foundation for further study in clinical genetics and genomics and is suitable for students with no, or limited, prior genetics training. You will finish the certificate with the ability to identify future learning needs in order to maintain an expert working knowledge in genomics.
Finish your Certificate with a scholarly ability to contribute evidence-based genomics knowledge within multidisciplinary settings. Career pathways include, but are not limited to: health ethics, public policy, variant curation science, bioinformatics, clinical trials and research.
