As the first Australian professional entry masters level program, the Melbourne MD creates a new benchmark in 21st century medical education.
Designed for students who have completed their undergraduate studies and are committed to professional training, this unique MD recognises both the personal and professional development of each individual.
The degree builds on prerequisite knowledge of anatomy, physiology and biochemistry acquired through undergraduate study. It delivers advanced clinical and academic training to ensure students are prepared for the challenges of a high quality medical internship. There are three clinical school zones involved with the MD course and individual hospitals within each zone.

The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a four year full-time course comprising:
One year of integrated bioscience and clinical learning featuring an innovative case-based teaching approach
Two core clinical training years which facilitate learning with patients in a wide range of settings
MD Research Project in which you will be immersed in a single medical discipline and complete a research project
A capstone semester in which you will "rehearse" the skills required for effective and safe clinical practice
An annual medical conference which will provide opportunities to interact with leaders in research, policy and clinical healthcare

Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.

In order to be considered for entry, applicants must have completed either:
An undergraduate degree in any discipline, with studies to have been completed within 10 years of 1 January in the year in which the applicant intends to commence the Doctor of Medicine, or
For applicants whose most recently completed undergraduate degree was completed 10 or more years before 1 January of the year in which the applicant intends to commence the Doctor of Medicine, a Graduate Diploma, Master or PhD degree or equivalent completed within 10 years before 1 January of the year in which the applicant intends to commence the Doctor of Medicine; and Prerequisite studies in anatomy, physiology and biochemistry consisting of at least one subject at second-year level of each, with prerequisite subjects to have been completed within 10 years of commencing the Doctor of Medicine; and
The Graduate Australian Medical Schools Admission Test (GAMSAT) or for international students who are located overseas only, either the GAMSAT or the North American Medical Colleges Admission Test (MCAT)
IELTS (academic English Only): 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0;
TOEFL (paper-based test): 600 +, TWE 5.0;
OEFL (internet-based test): 94 +(Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13);
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50;
Cambridge English: 185 +, no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill.
