Putting into practice what you learn in your lectures is a major part of the University of Waikato Bachelor of Science degree. You will gain hands-on experience with some of the most up-to-date and high-tech computing facilities and laboratory equipment available, such as our mass spectrometers for investigating molecular structure. We also take you right to the source, with field trips that might include an overnight stay to gather geothermal samples or a week-long bush camp to examine a region's flora. The range of career options available to Bachelor of Science (BSc) graduates isn't surprising when you consider the nature of the degree. It is extremely flexible so you can combine papers to suit your strengths and interests. We keep it general in the first year so that your choice, when you do come to specialise, is an informed one. Transferring from this degree to the BCMS(Hons) is also possible at any stage in your degree. Environmental Sciences A major in Environmental Sciences at Waikato encompasses ecology, earth sciences, and environmental chemistry as well as many other disciplines. It is about understanding and managing human impacts on our land, biodiversity, freshwater, oceans, atmosphere and climate while providing the food, water, energy, and mineral resource needs that are critical to our survival. At Waikato we take a strong interdisciplinary approach so you will gain skills in applying the biological, chemical and earth sciences to understand and manage the impacts of human activities on the environment. Waikato is a great region in which to base your Environmental Science studies. We have easy access to a wide range of natural environments as well as some of the most intensive farming and processing industries in New Zealand. Our field trips and study examples include coastal estuarine environments, the Waikato and Waihou Rivers, a wide range of lakes. World heritage listed Whangamarino wetland, leading international examples of predator pest control at Maungatautari, and many native forest ecological restoration sites are all within easy reach of the University of Waikato. 为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants are also accepted if they hold Senior High School Graduation plus one year successful study at a recognised institution of university standing; or successful completion of a two year diploma at a recognised institution. Other English Language Requirements: TOEFL paper-based score of 550 with TWE rating of 5.0; TOEFL computer-based score of 213 including a TWE of 5.0; CAEL Level 7 with a B grade average and no less than C in any section of the Certificate of Academic English Language (CAEL) programme; PTE Academic overall score of 57 and no less than 57 for Writing; NCEA (NZ schooling) should meet the NCEA literacy requirements for University Entrance (10 credits from the approved standards with 5 reading credits and 5 writing credits); and if English was the language of instruction in the last two years of secondary / tertiary studies then an English waiver can be considered. Special Admission: Applicants will be considered on a case by case basis. Applicants 20 years old and over by the beginning of their programme of study will be accepted, except those that are clearly insufficiently prepared for academic study. Preference may be given to applicants who have successfully completed appropriate Waikato Pathways College bridging programmes.
