The Theatre program at VCA trains theatre artists to work across all areas of live performance – including physical theatre, writing, directing and dramaturgy – preparing them for 21st-century careers in theatre in the Asia-Pacific.
Small class sizes
With small class sizes to support intensive project-based learning in theatrical contexts, you will explore current cultural and methodological practices.
Collaborative practise
Collaborative practice, as an important element of contemporary theatre, is integral to our training. As a Theatre student, you will collaborate throughout the course with VCA students from other disciplines, including Acting, Writing, Directing, Production, and Film & Television.
National and international projects
Engage in national and international engagement projects, building on existing expertise and approaches to industry readiness for the autonomous, ensemble and company practitioner.
You will
Develop a command of performance skills, including body, voice, and movement
Gain experience in adapting and developing stage and screen material for performance
Develop a new work and present it at a nationally recognised festival, and at an international touring studio
Consolidate a working methodology as an autonomous and ensemble performance maker
Graduates will be equipped with the skills and experience to enter the multifaceted theatre industry in the Asia-Pacific as performers, theatre-makers, producers and community artists.

Establish a career in: professional theatre, community arts and education, film, television, radio, new media, and education.

To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must fulfill all of the following requirements: Complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an equivalent Australian or overseas qualification like Australian Year 12, Trinity College Foundation Studies, GCE 'A' Levels, International Baccalaureate. English language requirements: TOEFL - Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English. Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: Writing: 21, Speaking: 18, Reading: 13, Listening 13. IELTS (Academic) - an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Pearson Test of English (Academic) - an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50. Cambridge English: Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - A Cambridge English Score of 176 with no skill below 169.
