Visual Art offers an immersive, studio-based environment that fosters self-directed studio practice in your choice of Drawing and Printmaking, Painting, Photography or Sculpture and Spatial Practice. The Bachelor of Fine Arts (Visual Art) is a specialist course that will help you develop practical skills and theoretical knowledge in the visual arts. From the outset, your studio projects are expected to demonstrate investigation and experimentation with a range of concepts, materials, techniques and processes. Your studies will culminate in a resolved body of artwork for inclusion in the Graduate Exhibition at the conclusion of the degree. You will Obtain knowledge and skills to maintain an independent artistic practice Develop confidence to undertake experimental technical/artistic approaches in developing set projects Develop understanding of topics in contemporary art criticism and aesthetic theory From the beginning, your studio projects are expected to demonstrate investigation and experimentation with a range of concepts, materials, techniques and processes. First year From your first day in the program, VCA provides you with studio and workshop facilities where you can explore both traditional and new media under the guidance of our lecturers. Aside from studio practice, you also undertake critical studies subjects that introduce you to the diversity of contemporary arts practices. Second and third year In second and third year, students are involved in sustained exploration and experimentation with ideas, procedures and methodologies of practice, culminating in a resolved body of artwork for the Graduate Exhibition. Careers As a graduate, gain work as a practicing visual artist and a variety of associated industries and professions including; conservators, curators, designers and educators. Roles Other graduate roles include: art adviser, conservator, curator, designer, specialist artisan and in education - visual art teacher.
