Marketing specialists begin from the point of view of customers to create, communicate, and deliver offerings that are of value. Organisations use marketing intelligence to respond to needs, growth and trends in the marketplace, in order to maximise profitability.
Marketing is essential to the health of any profitable enterprise, whether in the public or private sector. All organisations engage in marketing activities and must decide on a marketing mix that suits them best.
Marketing allows you to manage a brand and contribute to an organisation’s business strategy. This is relevant within large organisations as well as startups or new businesses.
MARKETING AT MELBOURNE
The Marketing major will provide you with the tools and skills you need to build relationships with your audience. It offers strategies that help you understand your customers and successfully target their needs. Marketing studies offer vital skills and knowledge to underpin your career growth, whatever path you choose to take.
You will develop a solid understanding of key marketing tools and goals such as segmentation, positioning, service excellence, sustainable leadership, and customer value, satisfaction and loyalty.

Learn the fundamentals of advertising, product and brand management, strategic marketing, market research, relationship marketing, global marketing, electronic marketing and buyer behaviour.
Your major structure
In your first and second year you will complete core subjects that are prerequisites for your major, as well as electives and breadth subjects.
In your final year you will study your major subjects, plus the a combination of elective and breadth subjects.
BREADTH STUDIES
Breadth is a unique feature of the Melbourne Model. It gives you the chance to explore subjects outside of commerce, developing new perspectives and learning to collaborate with others who have different strengths and interests — just as you will in your future career.
Some of our students use breadth to explore creative interests or topics they have always been curious about. Others used breadth to improve their career prospects by complementing their major with a language, communication skills or business expertise.

GRADUATE RESEARCH
Completing the Marketing major means you are very well placed for further study in honours and graduate research in a range of business and economics areas. Research training preparation within the honours year, a postgraduate diploma or a masters degree will be required as preparation for graduate research.

To be eligible for entry to an undergraduate degree you must fulfill all of the following requirements: Complete the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) or an equivalent Australian or overseas qualification like Australian Year 12, Trinity College Foundation Studies, GCE 'A' Levels, International Baccalaureate. English language requirements: TOEFL - Paper based test - a score of 577 or more including a score of 4.5 in the Test of Written English. Internet based test - a score of 79 and scores of: Writing: 21, Speaking: 18, Reading: 13, Listening 13. IELTS (Academic) - an overall band score of 6.5 or more in the Academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS), with no bands less than 6.0. Pearson Test of English (Academic) - an overall score of between 58-64 inclusive and achieve no PTE communicative skills score below 50. Cambridge English: Advanced/Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - A Cambridge English Score of 176 with no skill below 169.
