A Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) in Mechatronics Engineering offers a broader range of study than most specialisations, ensuring that there’ll be variety throughout your time with us. The specialisation covers aspects of Mechanical, Electronics, Computer and Software Engineering. A typical programme tends to involve:
Engineering and professional fundamentals in your first year
An emphasis on Mechanical Engineering in your second year
A balance of Mechanical, Electrical and Computer Engineering in your third year
More freedom to choose from a range of electives alongside your final fourth-year project
Core Mechatronics topics tend to include software design, sensors and actuators, signal processing, analog and digital circuit design, microcontroller systems, systems modelling, digital control and industrial automation. These fundamentals give you the right knowledge to understand: the mechanical behaviour of robots and smart systems; the intelligence of motion sensors; autonomous systems; and prototyping and product design.

Applicants must have an appropriate undergraduate degree with a minimum average grade of ‘B’ or higher in the final-year prerequisite courses at a recognised institution. Consult faculty guidelines for the grades required. Other English Language Requirements accepted: overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5 in Paper-based TOEFL; CAE score of 58 or higher, no individual language skill below borderline; CPE score of 45 or higher; PTE overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58; score of 85 in Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

You need to have one of the following:
International Baccalaureate Diploma with a minimum total score of 24.
General Certificate of Education (GCE) Advanced Level. You must have completed a minimum of three A-Level subjects with at least a 'C' grade or higher. General Studies or similar general papers cannot be included.
GCE ‘A’ Level requirements apply to ‘A’ Level qualifications examined by bodies such as AQA, OCR, Edexcel, WJEC, CCEA, Pearson Education Limited and CIE taken outside of New Zealand.
IELTS (Academic) Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) Overall score of 90 and a written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL Overall score of 575 and an Essay (TWE) of 4.5; C1 Advanced (previously - Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)) Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; C2 Proficiency (previously - Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE)) Overall score of 176 and no bands below 169; Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP) Grade of B-; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic Overall score of 58 and no PTE Communicative score below 50; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB) 85.
