Programme overview
Rapid technological change has created an increasing range of applications for Operations Research. This programme meets industry needs by enabling students from a range of undergraduate backgrounds to gain the fundamental skills needed to become versatile practitioners.
Core topics such as optimisation under uncertainty, searching techniques, financial statistics and computational algorithms are covered, showing the direct influence of the field. The PGDipOR additionally provides the foundations to pursue further study in the research-based Master of Operations Research.
Programme structure
This is a 120 point taught programme that requires the following:
At least 75 points – or five selections – from the list of courses in Engineering Science and Statistics.
Up to 45 points in electives. These have to be postgraduate courses that are approved by the Programme Convenor.
Where could this programme take you?
The PGDipOR is largely seen as a pathway for future study. While it can boost your quantitative skills to work in this field, it ultimately supplements your undergraduate degree with the essential foundations needed to pursue a Masters degree in Operations Research.

Applicants must hold a satisfactory level of competence in the subject area attested from a recognised institution, or an equivalent qualification. Other English Language Requirements accepted: overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5 in Paper-based TOEFL; CAE score of 58 or higher, no individual language skill below borderline; CPE score of 45 or higher; PTE overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58; score of 85 in Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

You must have completed an undergraduate degree at a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 5.0 in the most advanced courses taken in your degree. You also must have passed courses in linear programming and applied stochastic modelling with a GPE of 4.0.
IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.5; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT): Overall score of 90; Paper-based TOEFL: Overall score of 575; Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Cambridge English Proficiency (CPE): Overall score of 176; Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic: Overall score of 58; Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB): 85.
