Designed for practising teachers, this masters programme will equip you with relevant, research-informed knowledge and skills to enhance your practice and address vital educational issues within your own work context.
Programme overview
If you are a practising teacher who would like to advance your knowledge, skills and qualification and apply them directly to your own work context, this programme offers flexible pathways for you to achieve your goals.
You can choose to study by courses with practice project or by courses only. You will be equipped with world-leading research, knowledge and tools to help enhance your own teaching practice, so that you can better achieve positive and equitable outcomes for diverse communities and learners.
This practitioner-focused programme is designed to be taken part-time, outside of school hours, using a blend of face-to-face and online delivery.
A practice project is a 45-point independent study focused on your own teaching and learning context, with a view to improving student learning. It is not a thesis or dissertation.
120-point taught masters. An advanced fast-track degree for practising teachers with at least one or two years’ experience (depending on prior qualifications). Completion by education practice project or by taught courses around Education Practice.
180-point taught masters. An advanced degree around aspects of Education Practice. Completion by education practice project or by taught courses focusing on topics such as Contemporary Pedagogies, Literacy Education, Curriculum Theory and Social Psychology of the Classroom.
Where could this programme take you?
This masters qualification builds on the knowledge teachers already have through their initial teacher education programmes and teaching experience so that they can achieve greater outcomes through their teaching. It has the potential to enhance qualified teachers’ opportunities for promotion and wider career prospects, through better understanding of issues and ideas in Education and demonstrated effectiveness in teacher practice.

Applicants must hold a satisfactory level of competence in the subject area attested from a recognised institution, or an equivalent qualification. Other English Language Requirements accepted: overall score of 575 plus Essay (TWE) of 4.5 in Paper-based TOEFL; CAE score of 58 or higher, no individual language skill below borderline; CPE score of 45 or higher; PTE overall score of 65 and no PTE communicative skills score below 58; score of 85 in Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB).

Taught 120 points:
You must have completed an undergraduate degree in education, teaching or physical education; or one year of postgraduate study in education or teaching, following an undergraduate degree, at a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 5.0 or higher.
In addition, you must have at least one year of teaching experience. At least two years of teaching experience is required if you have completed an undergraduate degree in education, teaching or physical education.
Taught 180 points:
You must have completed an undergraduate degree in education, teaching or physical education; or one year of postgraduate study in education or teaching, following an undergraduate degree, at a recognised university (or similar institution) with a GPE of 3.5 or higher.
A GPE of 4.0 is required for graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Teaching) (Honours) or its equivalent.
IELTS (Academic) Overall score of 6.5 and no bands below 6.0; Internet-based TOEFL (iBT) Overall score of 90 and a written score of 21; Paper-based TOEFL Overall score of 575 and Total Written Essay (TWE) of 4.5; CAE or CPE: Overall score 176 and Minimum band score169; FCertEAP: Overall score B-; PTE Academic: Overall Score 58 and Minimum communicative skills score 50; MELAB: Overall score 85.
