Programme overview
Want a career as an interpreter? Are you fluent in two languages? Perhaps you're already working or volunteering as an interpreter and want a formal qualification. The Certificate in Liaison Interpreting is a four-month intensive programme that provides you with professional skills in interpretation (the task of converting spoken statements from one language to another, and from one culture to another). With this certificate, community and government agencies can be sure you have the skills to work effectively and professionally as a liaison interpreter in a range of community settings.

This is a full-time course with an extensive on-line component. Classes are held two evenings per week (Tuesday and Thursday) and on Saturday mornings.

For this programme, you will need the following:
Entry requirements vary from country to country.
Students are required to complete international academic qualification equivalent to New Zealand NCEA (or equivalent)
Be at least 18 years old by the time the programme begins
A minimum of 4 years secondary education
Provide evidence of proficiency in a language other than English:
Completed high school in a language other than English; and/or
Have a degree with a major in a language other than English; and/or
Provide evidence of oral and written proficiency in a language other than English in the form of two reference letters from your community or someone of standing from an educational institution who speaks the same language.
If English is your second language, you will need one or more of the following:
IELTS Academic Format: 6 with no band score lower than 5.5
TOEFL (pBT) Paper-based test: Score of 550 (essay 5 TWE)
TOEFL (iBT) Internet based test: Score of 60 (writing 18)
University of Cambridge English Examinations: FCE or FCE of Schools with a score of 169. No less than 162 in each skill. OET at Grade C in all sub-tests
Pearson Test of English (Academic): 50 with no score lower than 42
