Earn while you learn in beautiful Central Otago.
This programme allows you to improve your English language skills while you learn about the horticulture and/or the New Zealand wine-making industry. You will get hands-on experience working in the industry as you harvest cherries in the summer and grapes in the autumn.
The programme content is formed from key units of learning used throughout the New Zealand horticulture/viticulture industry. This means that you will be well-prepared to work as the skills you gain are industry-relevant and up-to-date.
Late November to mid-December: You will take part in English language classes and study horticulture.
Mid-December to late January: Gain hands-on experience harvesting cherries.
Late January to late March: Resume your English and horticulture studies.
Late March to late April: Gain hands-on experience harvesting grapes.
You will study
Horticulture and/or Viticulture
You will study a range of different horticulture/viticulture units. These will help you to gain an understanding of both theoretical and practical topics.
English language
Develop your English language reading, writing, speaking and listening skills during this class. You will gain knowledge across a small range of topics relating to community services and resources, including some aspects of employment and education. The content will be tailored to suit your needs and may include topics such as recreation, sustainability, festivals or employment.
Upon successful completion of the programme, you will be awarded the National Certificate in Horticulture (Introductory) (Level 2) and will receive a Record of Achievement for the 15-credit English course.
