The BSc Geography with Foundation Year focuses on the processes that underlie past and present changes in our environment and the technologies we use to observe and understand them. You will study the prediction of future changes and how societies must respond and manage them is also a fundamental concern. You'll also learn how the nature of environmental change requires understanding of physical and biological processes from a molecular level to earth system scales and study a diverse range of environments, from deserts to ice sheets, and tropical oceans to arctic ecosystems. The foundation year of the programme provides adults with non-standard entry qualifications a thorough and supportive academic preparation for successful degree level study in the Department of Geography. It is carefully designed to build your confidence in your abilities, develop essential academic and study skills, and provide the subject specific knowledge essential for success. Students will progress to the Department of Geography after completing their foundation year, subject to meeting progression thresholds which differ across courses and departments.
