The course will provide you with modern training in experimental techniques and give you wide-ranging skills in both biochemistry and biological chemistry. The four year MSci course is designed for students wishing to pursue scientific research careers at the highest level or to continue onto postgraduate research. The BSc and MSci courses have the first two years in common and you can change from the MSci to the BSc at any time. You will have a thorough understanding of the fundamental aspects of cell biology, biochemistry and genetics. You will have undertaken practical studies in cell biology, classical and molecular genetics, analysis of proteins and enzymes, and gene cloning. Through a major individual project, which may be lab-, bioinformatics- or literature- based, you will have carried out your own research and developed transferable skills in presentation, interpretation and criticism of scientific data. Your research skills will have developed to a level that allows you to compete for the best postgraduate positions.
