专业简介
The Master of Biotechnology integrates biotechnology and entrepreneurship through a range of multidisciplinary coursework, research and work-integrated units in modern areas of studies.
In the first year (Part A) of the course, students will be taught theoretical knowledge and practical skills in contemporary biotechnology-related topics, and the processes involved in obtaining research funding and translating biomedical products from lab to life.
Start of expanded content
In the second year (Part B) of the course, students who achieved ≥ 70% average in their first-year studies will have the opportunity to undertake either a 3-month or 6-month industry placement in a pharmaceutical, medical device, life science and/ or regulatory organisations. Students will also have the option to undertake a research project, where they will work closely with experts in a specialised area of research to advance knowledge of human diseases, and explore therapeutic targets for the prevention and treatment of these conditions. In addition, Part B offers a range of coursework electives in interdisciplinary fields of pioneering developments in biotechnology research and enterprise.
The course is structured in two parts: Part A: Core Biotechnology studies and Part B: Application studies
All students complete Part A. Depending upon prior qualifications, you may receive credit for Part B.
Part A: Core biotechnology studies
These studies present theoretical knowledge in key areas of biotechnology and its applications. You will gain a critical understanding of the designs and methods used in undertaking medical research, and the opportunities and challenges involved in the commercialisation of biotechnology.
Part B: Application studies
In these studies, you will focus on the application of advanced biotechnology practice. You will consolidate your skills, and knowledge and demonstrate your mastery through either a research project and/ or an industry placement program. In order to be eligible for the industry placement program, you will be required to achieve more than 70% in the Core Biotechnology component. If you do not meet this requirement, then you must undertake the Research project and two coursework units.

Applicants must have a relevant bachelor degree or equivalent. English language requirements: IELTS 7.0 no band lower than 6.5, or TOEFL 600 with a TWE of 5, or an internet-based TOEFL score of 100 with 24 plus in Writing and no section lower than 20

Entry level 1:
An Australian undergraduate degree (or equivalent) in *bio-sciences, bio-engineering or biotechnology with at least 60% average.
Entry Level 2:
An Australian undergraduate honours degree (or equivalent) with at least 70% average in *bio-sciences, bio-engineering or biotechnology.
Areas of study include a Bachelor’s degree in one of the following:
Biomedical Science, Science/Applied Science with a major in (biochemistry, Biotechnology, developmental biology, Human Biology, Marine Biology, Human Pathology, Genetics, Pharmacology, Immunology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Physiology and Zoology), Nutrition Sciences, Dietetics, Veterinary Science, Medical Engineering, Pharmacy, Bioengineering, Biotechnology, Life Science, Clinical Medicine, Dental Science/Dentistry, or Bioinformatics.
English Language Requirements:
IELTS: 6.5 (with individual band scores of Writing: 6.0, Listening: 6.5, Reading: 6.5 and Speaking: 6.0)
TOEFL Paper-based test: 550 with a TWE 4.5
TOEFL Internet-based test: score of 79 overall with minimum scores: Writing 21, Listening 20, Reading 19, Speaking 18
