Monash UniversityDoctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Clinical Neuropsychology

专业简介

Whether you want to get ahead in your career faster, or improve your knowledge, a Monash postgraduate degree can give you a distinct advantage. This course provides doctoral training in both advanced clinical neuropsychology and advanced research. Once completed, you will be eligible for full registration as a psychologist with the Psychology Board of Australia, and an area of practice endorsement in Clinical Neuropsychology following completion of the 2 year registrar program. The Doctor of Philosophy (Clinical Neuropsychology) is a graduate research degree that incorporates advanced clinical training in clinical neuropsychology. It integrates theory, practice and research to qualify you as a highly skilled clinical neuropsychologist, able to assess and treat children and adults with neurological and psychological disorders. The program consists two years of intensive, skills-based coursework, three clinical placements in a range of hospital and community settings, and a research thesis that makes a significant contribution to the field of clinical neuropsychology. This intensive coursework program includes units in neuroanatomy, neuropsychological assessment, ethics and professional practice, and neuropsychological rehabilitation. You’ll apply this knowledge in a minimum of 1000 hours of clinical placements, exposing you to a diverse range of client groups. Our placements provide comprehensive experience in child and adolescent, acute neurology, geriatric, psychiatric and rehabilitation settings, including our renowned clinic, the Monash Psychology Centre. You'll also conduct a major, supervised, research program and produce a 60,000 to 80,000-word research thesis on a topic relevant to clinical neuropsychology. This accounts for 70 per cent of the degree and allows you to substantially contribute to clinically relevant research knowledge, which may result in improved clinical practice. The course is delivered by our Monash Institute of Cognitive and Clinical Neurosciences, within the School of Psychological Sciences. Our researchers lead the way in investigating how such factors as addiction, neurodevelopment, brain injury, ageing, mood disorders and sleep affect mental health and behaviour. Our teaching and research team comprises accomplished clinical researchers who have been internationally recognised through prestigious awards, as well as experienced practitioners and clinical supervisors who have been awarded for their educational excellence. Many of our staff maintain leadership positions for professional organisations in Australia and internationally. More than 95% of our graduates are employed using their qualification, many of whom are in senior research and clinical positions in Australia and elsewhere. Professor Jennie Ponsford AO, convenor of the Doctor of Philosophy in Clinical Neuropsychology, is an Officer of the Order of Australia and the recipient of the prestigious Robert L. Moody Prize in the US for her world-class clinical and research work over 30 years, in which she significantly advanced our understanding and treatment of the cognitive, psychological and behavioural sequelae of traumatic brain injury. You will study across our Clayton and Notting Hill campuses.
