Mathematics provides the theoretical framework for physical science, statistics and data analysis, and computer science. Mathematics at Kent provides a broad understanding of the subject, which makes it a good base for many careers. You can choose options to specialise in pure mathematics or applied mathematics, with the modules offered reflecting the research interests of our academics. You study a common core of mathematics in the first year. Our modules cover all aspects of mathematics including geometry, algebra, calculus and mathematical modelling, proofs and numbers, elementary probability theory, statistics and business economics. In the second and third years, you move on to cover abstract, analytical and computational techniques. This allows you to specialise in areas such as non-linear differential equations, computational algebra and geometry, financial mathematics, forecasting, design and analysis of experiments, inference and stochastic processes.
