专业简介
This course will give you a broad perspective on climate change – not only inspiring you to make a difference, but showing you how you can contribute to solving the problems of climate change. You will come to understand both the natural science of the climate system and the social science of addressing and adapting to the impacts of climate change. You will learn about the links between society, environment and climate change, focusing on the physical, geographical, political, and social aspects of how and why the climate is changing. This subject involves a wide range of perspectives and disciplines, and you will see how different approaches to climate change complement one another. You will also get a thorough grounding in the natural sciences, reflecting our unique multi-disciplinary approach. During your BSc Climate Change at UEA you will explore the following questions among many others: • Is it possible to prevent dangerous climate change?• How will different regions around the world be impacted by climate change? • What can be done to adapt to these changes?• What are the innovation challenges and technological solutions for climate change?• What is the physical basis for climate change in atmospheric and oceanic processes?• How can energy consumption in the western world be reduced?• What is the role of environmental policy?**Course Structure**This three-year degree programme begins with a year of basic training in environmental science and scientific skills, followed by more specialised training on climate change in your final two years. As the course progresses you will have more and more freedom to focus on the areas of climate change that most inspire you. **Year 1**In your first year you’ll gain a strong multi-disciplinary grounding in both fundamental and applied environmental science, including basic geological, physical, and chemical processes, geographical perspectives, ecology, mathematics and statistics, and training in research and field skills. You will learn about global environmental challenges including climate change, and concepts in sustainability development and biodiversity conservation. **Year 2**In your second year you will focus more specifically on climate change issues. In the compulsory module Climate Change Science and Policy you will explore the basic physical science of climate change and its consequences for human and natural systems. You’ll learn how we can reduce the impact of climate change through mitigation and adaptation, and how climate policy has evolved, culminating in the Paris Agreement. You’ll also look at the bigger picture of general environmental policy making in the module Environmental Politics and Policy Making. You’ll take your pick from optional modules which cover topics such as meteorology; atmospheric chemistry and global change; hydrology and hydrogeology; ocean circulation, shelf sea dynamics and coastal processes; aquatic ecology; aquatic biogeochemistry; soil processes and environmental issues. **Year 3**A central focus in your third year will be your individual research project where you will investigate a specialist area of climate change in professional depth with one-to-one support from your academic supervisor. You’ll also get to choose from a wide range of modules which cover topics such as the carbon cycle and climate change; paleoclimatology; biological oceanography and marine ecology; biodiversity conservation and human society; environmental consultancy; catchment water resources; fossil fuels, energy and people; and natural resources and environmental economics. You can also choose optional field courses in destinations such as Spain, Ireland or Greece. **Disclaimer**Course details are subject to change. You should always confirm
