This course demonstrates the role that chemistry plays in our lives, but this is a course about the chemistry of life. This course gives you the opportunity to learn about the chemistry of biological systems, the molecular basis of disease and how to design pharmaceutical products to combat illness. In some cases, this work will be assessed towards your degree mark (e.g. examinations, practical work and assessed workshops). In other cases the work, and feedback, is intended to assist your own personal development (e.g. for tutorials and workshops, written work is marked and returned giving students prompt feedback on performance and understanding). For some modules, presentations are assessed. Although the majority of our graduates progress to become scientists, the analytical and transferable skills which constitute part of our degrees are recognised as suitable training for a wide range of careers.
