Law with Media Studies is a Qualifying Law Degree (QLD) which enables you to study the interface between Law and the media and how the media operates in the modern era. The Law element ensures that you study all the QLD subjects so that the degree is recognised as a Law degree for professional purposes. The Media element allows you to study the development of modern forms of media, from radio to television; and the digital age, with close examination of how the issues of privacy and modern communication methods are reconciled in the contemporary era.  You will creatively engage with the media, while developing and deepening a critical knowledge and understanding of its forms, structure and content. You will conduct research (practice-based, empirical or critical) linked to the field of media theory, communication and media forms; and reach a level of independent thinking with regard to the creative and critical styles, contexts, theories and practices of the media. Students have the opportunity to enhance their degree programme and extend their understanding of their degree subject area by spending a period of study at an overseas host institution. This route is optional and if you choose to follow it you will extend your period of study from three years to four and will gain an enhanced degree qualification: LLB Law with Media Studies (International Experience). You will need to pass a specified number of credits during their year abroad but no credits from that year will feed into your degree.
