Education is a forward-looking, research-led discipline concerned with policy and practice from a global perspective. It is a rapidly growing area of study that draws on the disciplines of psychology, philosophy, history and the social sciences to focus on understanding how people learn and how structures of education operate to foster life-long learning and personal development. It is designed for both UK/EU and international students; our BA (Hons) Education programme considers education in a wide context, not just within formal primary and secondary school settings, but also Further/Higher Education, social services, local and national government, and education within the community. Students will be equipped with a solid grounding in contemporary theories and conceptual models of education as applied to local, national and international practice. They will develop the research skills needed to critically evaluate current education practice and policy, and in turn, inform future policy development in a rapidly changing political and social environment. In addition, with our unique emphasis on learning in a digital age, students will be well equipped to utilise cutting edge learning technologies central to current trends in education theory and practice. Employability and study skills are embedded throughout our BA (Hons) Education degree. A degree in education provides excellent preparation for students wishing to pursue a wide-range of professional careers. It is excellent preparation for students wishing to undertake further training in primary, secondary or further education. Graduates may also wish to undertake a Master’s course or PhD in Education or a related social science to further enhance their professional skills, knowledge and experience.
