This flexible course will enable you to do both at the same time. The BA (Hons) in English Literature and Creative Writing at Northumbria is a dynamic and exciting course, intended not only for writers, but for anyone with a lively interest in reading and writing. During your studies, you will gain a much deeper knowledge of literature and the creative process, whilst looking at the ways in which these two related subjects inform each other. Our students on the English and Creative Writing degree emphasize the strong sense of community fostered across their three years of study, as well as the benefits of our varied methods of teaching and assessment. We will help you to identify your strengths and interests as a writer, by giving you the opportunity to write in a range of genres including fiction, poetry and scriptwriting, whilst also examining a broad range of literature stretching from the Renaissance to the present day. There are logical career paths into writing, publishing, media, communications and advertising, but frequently our graduates also use their transferable skills to work in business, law and teaching, or to undertake postgraduate study.
