With a Bachelor of Economics, you will develop a detailed understanding of how decisions are made by individuals, firms, and governments through analysis of micro and macro economic environments for business and the broader community. This on-campus, 3-year full-time or 7-year part-time course is offered at the Hobart campus, with a limited number of first year units are also available at the Launceston and Cradle Coast Campuses. Career outcomes Good economic management helps improve the overall living standards of a society, so a Bachelor of Economics with Honours is a sought-after qualification, and highly respected by employers. A depth of understanding in a particular discipline allows you to pursue a focused career, but an economics qualification also provides an excellent generalist degree for many graduate positions. Irrespective of your chosen career path a knowledge of economics gives you a competitive advantage. As well as understanding the fundamentals of economics, you’ll develop workplace skills such as critical thinking, strategic analysis and measured decision-making. As a Bachelor of Economics graduate, you will have access to a diverse range of career opportunities. While undertaking the Bachelor of Economics degree, students can apply to become special members of the Economics Society of Australia. Students completing a Bachelor of Economics with a Finance major meet the academic entry requirements to seek membership of the Australian Institute of Banking and Finance.

Entry requirements vary from country to country. For more details, please visit university site. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic) - 6.0 (no individual band less than 5.5); TOEFL (IBT) 72 (no skill below: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; Writing 19); PTE Academic 50 with no score lower than 42; UTAS Access-English Level 6 - 60% (no individual score less than 55%); Cambridge CAE (Certificate of Advanced English) - B Grade; Cambridge CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English) - C Grade; Cambridge BEC (Business English Certificate) Higher - C Grade. 国际学生入学条件 Admission to undergraduate courses at the University of Tasmania requires qualifications equivalent to the 12th year of schooling in Australia. International students must provide one of the following: UTASAccess Level 6 with a minimum overall score of 60% and no individual skill below 55%; or an IELTS score with an overall Band of 6 and no band less than 5.5; or a TOEFL (iBT) overall score of 72 (no individual skill must be lower than: Reading 10; Listening 9; Speaking 16; and, Writing 19) or a PTE Academic overall score of 50 with no score lower than 42, or provide evidence that you have studied for 2 years full-time with English as the sole medium of instruction and examination. These tests must not be more than 24 months old. Entrants to the Bachelor of Economics must have completed General Mathematics TQA 3 (MTG ), Mathematics Methods – Foundation TQA 3 (MTM ), Mathematics Applied TQA 3 (MTA ) or an equivalent pre-tertiary or higher level mathematics subject. Applicants who do not have the mathematics prerequisite and who wish to enrol in the BEc should contact the TSBE Academic Administration Office on concerning a pathway into this degree. Students returning to study either after a long absence or new students who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills should enrol in UPP075 Bridging Maths, XAB090 Transition Maths or BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods or KMA003 Mathematics Foundation Unit, before enrolling in the core BEc units BEA140 Quantitative Methods or BEA142 Quantitative Economic Analysis. International students who have the mathematics prerequisite but who lack confidence in their quantitative skills and who would like to undertake a mathematics bridging program may only take BEA109 Introduction to Quantitative Methods.
