专业简介
There has never been a more exciting time to study science. The immense field of science underpins areas such as technology, industry, business, agriculture, environment, research and development, health, and the information revolution. A science degree provides you with the skills, knowledge, and attributes to make a positive difference to the world in these and other arenas.
If you have an inquisitive mind, a passion for discovery, strong analytical and research skills, and an interest in the world around you, then the Bachelor of Science is for you. A degree in science allows you to contribute to science and society into the future, pursue higher-level employment, and undertake research.
PHYSICS
Physics is one of the oldest natural sciences dedicated to the study of how the universe works.
It explains the fundamental mechanisms of the other sciences, underpins the technologies that are the focus of engineering and opens up new areas of research.
Our Physics major in the Bachelor of Science will develop the basic skills needed to contribute to scientific development in many areas of technology and industry. You'll learn from world-leading academics who are at the forefront of knowledge generation and development.
Throughout your degree you'll study topics in classical and modern physics including quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, optics, nuclear physics, atomic physics and special relativity.
You can also choose other mathematics and science courses that interest you or undertake a double major which could further your career options.
Our Physics facilities at UON have undergone a series of refurbishments over the past five years to include new research equipment, laboratories and building infrastructure which are accessible to students undertaking research projects as part of their degree or a Summer Scholarship scheme.
Graduates are able to find employment across a broad range of areas due to the versatile skills you will learn while studying physics. Some of the careers available in physics include:
nanotechnologist
astrophysicist
space scientist
defence scientist
optical physicist
risk analyst
software engineer
There is an opportunity to take an additional Honours year after completing your degree with Master and PhD programs also available. Currently some of the research being carried out through the University's Centre for Organic Electronics includes developing new low-cost sustainable sources of energy and developing saliva-based glucose monitors that can be printed with the potential to help millions of diabetics around the world.
