Macquarie is home to internationally respected clinical psychologists, cognitive psychologists, linguists, neuropsychologists, neuroscientists, philosophers and speech pathologists who are leading the world in understanding and treating disorders such as anxiety, aphasia, autism, depression, dyslexia, post-traumatic stress disorder, prosopagnosia, schizophrenia, social phobia and specific language impairments. Together, they have helped Macquarie achieve international recognition for psychology and cognitive science research. In the most recent Excellence in Research for Australia (ERA) evaluation, our psychology and cognitive science research received a rating of ‘performance at world standard’. We host the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders and the KIT-Macquarie Brain Research Laboratory, which houses the world’s first child MEG system, and the world’s first MEG system for children and adults with Cochlear implants. The Department of Cognitive Science is a research department which carries out research and PhD supervision across a wide range of domains of cognitive science, including collective cognition, language, belief formation, perception in action, and reading. The Department also hosts the ARC Centre of Excellence in Cognition and its Disorders, which brings together researchers from the Departments of Cognitive Science, Psychology and Linguistics at Macquarie University and thirteen other national and international institutions.
