Overview
Despite economic growth and groundbreaking medical research in recent decades, income inequality and other disparities have led to poor health outcomes for some groups in society and have contributed to entrenched social disadvantage. Overcoming these disparities requires a holistic approach: one that combines a deep understanding of contemporary public health issues and their drivers with communication, leadership and policy knowledge.
This specialisation focuses on the multi-disciplinary nature of public health and emphasises the building of essential skills for 21st century practice. It takes an innovative, integrated and outcomes-focused approach, and provides you with learning experiences that are informative, formative and transformative. Through opportunities for extended professional practice in a public health workplace, you’ll develop the skills you need to become a driving force for public health improvement.
KEY FEATURES
You’ll have the opportunity to take advantage of one or two session-long immersive professional placements, with each placement consisting of approximately 10 weeks of full-time work.
Your professional placements will give you the opportunity to contribute to real-world initiatives in areas as diverse as policy, research, health promotion and advocacy.
You’ll gain valuable, hands-on experience through tasks including ethics submissions, program development, program evaluation, literature reviews and stakeholder engagement.
You’ll be able to combine your professional placement with study in a variety of practically focused units including biological, environmental, social and behavioural determinants of health; health law, economics and policy; as well as innovation in business leadership and management, teamwork and advocacy.
To ensure you get the most from your professional placement, you’ll plan your placements and the work you’ll undertake with both lecturers and workplace supervisors.
You’ll also demonstrate the ability to reflect critically on the relationship between theory and professional practice.

Applicants must hold a Bachelor degree or equivalent from a recognised institution. They should be able to demonstrate research experience in their previous studies. English Language Requirements: TOEFL (paper based) score of 570; Pearson test of English (PTE) academic general score of 64; Cambridge English: advanced (CAE) general score of 58; Occupational English test (OET) score of Grade B or above.
