专业简介
Overview
Although the pace of global development is accelerating and health, housing and welfare have seen exciting advances in many areas, poverty, inequality and disease still define many communities. Finding sustainable ways to address these issues, and helping communities to improve their living standards and outlook for the future is essential to ensuring that the benefits of living in an increasingly globalised world are distributed fairly, while any negative impacts are minimised.
This double degree, which can be completed in just two-and-a-half years, develops your skills in applied social research and the analysis of policy in the context of inter-related social factors and development studies. You’ll be equipped to progress quickly in your career in development, humanitarian, political and policy-related work in government and non-government organisations in Australia and overseas, and in businesses with an interest in public policy decision-making.
KEY FEATURES
You’ll learn how to theoretically frame and practically address the social, cultural, environmental and political-economic dynamics within development, humanitarian and global health practice, and understand how these dynamics coalesce and affect people's lives.
You’ll be equipped with the knowledge and skills to undertake both quantitative and qualitative research in areas such as human services and care, crime and social policy, work and employment, and economics.
You’ll develop study plans tailored to your personal interests and be able to study diverse disciplines including politics, human geography, anthropology, environment, global health, migration, human rights, sustainable development, public policy and cross-cultural communication.
You’ll develop culturally relevant and professional leadership skills that will allow you to work collaboratively to set priorities, identify issues and address practical problems within a variety of contexts.
You’ll have an opportunity to undertake professional internships and supervised research projects that will allow you to gain valuable hands-on experience.
